Warranty Renewal When Upgrading to a New Release of FARO Software

Quick Steps

  1. Check your warranty status in FARONow: https://faronow.faro.com.
  2. In this knowledge base, search for the Download article for your FARO® software. In the Quick Steps section, check the software release Date.
    • If the software release date is before the warranty expiration date, you can download, install, and immediately run the latest software, or if prompted, follow the prompts to update your existing product key or dongle and then run the software.

    • If the software release date is after the warranty expiration date, either you can immediately run the latest software, or licensing messages will appear preventing you from running it. If licensing messages appear, you may have to renew your warranty before you can run the software. 
  3. If you need to renew your warranty. Contact FARO within your geographical region to start the warranty renewal process. Typically it takes 3 to 5 business days to process a warranty renewal.
    • For North and South Americas: Fill out this Warranty Renewal form.
    • For EMEA Send an email to ams@faro.com and ask for help with warranty renewal.
    • For Asia Pacific: Contact FARO Support in your region and ask for help with warranty renewal.
  4. When the warranty renewal process is complete, in this knowledge base, search for the Active and Update article for your FARO software and follow the steps to automatically update your existing product key or dongle.

Overview

When a new version of FARO software is released, the status of your warranty determines if you can or cannot run the latest software. It can be a time-saver to check your warranty status on FARONow before you try to install the new software version. If you try to run the new version and get reoccurring license messages after you update the license key or a message that says your warranty has expired, then you will have to renew your warranty before you can successfully run the software.   

When you have an an up-to-date warranty, you are able to access and run new major or patch releases with the least impact on your daily workflow. Click here to learn more about warranties and updating keys.

Prepare

Please review this table before you begin to ensure your success.

Check the Warranty Expiration Date 

  1. In your browser, navigate to FARONow, https://faronow.faro.com.
  2. Navigate to MY RECORDS>ASSETS.
  3. By default FARONow filters the list to Recently Viewed assets. To see all assets, click the dropdown arrow and select My Org's Assets.
  4. Locate the asset for the software you want to upgrade and click on the Asset Name.
  5. On the next page, scroll down to the bottom and locate the Warranty & Certification Information section. Look for Warranty Expires (Date)

Check the Software Release Date and Download the Software

FARO software Download knowledge base articles contain release dates and installation instructions. 

  1. For example, if you use FARO SCENE, in the knowledge base search bar, type Download SCENE. Use the links in the search results to take you to the SCENE download article.
  2. Notice the table in the Quick Steps section. The release date for the latest software version appears in the first column. If you are looking for a release date for a different software version, scroll down to the Earlier Versions section and click on + to expand the section.

  3. Write down the release date for the version you want to install.
  4. Click a link to download the software. 
  5. Install the software according to the instructions in the Download article.

Run the Software

  • If the software release date is before the warranty expiration date, you can immediately run the latest software, or if prompted, follow the prompts to update your existing product key or dongle and then run the software. For update instructions, search for the Active or Update article for your FARO software and follow the steps to automatically update your existing product key or dongle.

  • If the software release date is after the warranty expiration date, either you can immediately run the latest software, or licensing/expired warranty messages will appear preventing you from running it. If messages appear, you may have to renew your warranty before you can run the software. 

Renew the Warranty

  1. How you request help to renew your warranty depends on your geographic region. 
    • For North and South Americas: Fill out this Warranty Renewal form.
    • For EMEA Send an email to ams@faro.com and ask for help with warranty renewal.
    • For Asia Pacific: Contact FARO Support in your region and ask for help with warranty renewal.
  2. A FARO representative will contact you to help you choose the software warranty option that is best for you and arrange a form of payment. At the time of purchase, ask the representative how long it will take until the renewal process is complete (typically 3 to 5 business days). 

Update the Product Key or Dongle

  • When the warranty renewal process is complete, in this knowledge base, search for the Active or Update article for your FARO software and follow the steps to automatically update your existing product key or dongle and run the software.
