After you have downloaded and installed an upgrade for your existing FARO software installation, when you try to install and run the software you might see a window asking you to enter a product/license key when you open the software. To clear this window, you need to update your product/license key. 

Product/license keys are related to software warranties. If you have a valid warranty, you can quickly update the product/license key and use your FARO software. If your warranty has expired, then you must purchase a warranty extension and update your key before you can use the software. This article shows you how to check your warranty on the Americas FARO Support Portal.

Check the Software Release Date

Software release dates are in the articles for downloading FARO software. These steps show you how to find them. 

  1. Refer to the See Also list and click the link for the software you want to upgrade. This takes you to the download articles for that software.
  2. Notice the table in the Quick Steps section. The release date for the current software version appears in the first column. If you are looking for the release date for a different software version, scroll to the Earlier Versions section.

  3. Write down the release date for the version you are using to upgrade.
  4. Go to Check Your Warranty Expiration Date to continue.

Check Your Warranty Expiration Date

If you know your warranty expiration date, compare it to the software release date you wrote down. If it is before the warranty expiration date, go to upgrade an existing installation of FARO software to continue. If it is after the warranty expiration date, go to renew my warranty and update my FARO software product/license key to continue.

If you do not know your warranty expiration date, you can find it your account on the Support Portal. If you do not have an account, click here for instructions and more information. These steps assume you have an account.

To view the warranty status or certification date of a specific asset:

  1. Navigate to MY RECORDS>ASSETS.
  2. By default the FARO Portal will filter the list to "Recently Viewed" assets, to see all assets, click the dropdown arrow and select "My Org's Assets".
  3. Locate the desired asset and click on the asset name.
  4. On the next screen scroll down to the bottom of the page and locate the Warranty & Certification Information section. This section lists the following information:
  • Warranty Plan
  • Last Certification Date (hardware assets only)
  • Warranty Expires (Date)
