Overview

Updating the SafeNet Sentinel HASP license driver and FARO Remote Update System is automatically done when you install or upgrade FARO software. If problems occur during these processes, during license activation, or if you are using a license server, you may have to manually update the driver and RUS. This article provides step-by-step directions for stand-alone computers, client computers, or license servers.

Check the Driver and RUS Version Numbers Installed on Your Computer

Compare the Driver and RUS Version Numbers to the Latest Versions and Download Them if Necessary

  1. Click here and look at the Quick Steps to see the latest driver and RUS version numbers and dates.
  2. Compare them to the version numbers of the driver and RUS installed on your computer. If they match, you are done. If you are using an earlier versions, download the latest versions.
  3. When both the driver and RUS downloads are complete, go to Uninstall the Old Driver to continue.

Uninstall the Old Driver

Follow these instructions for a stand-alone computer, a client computer, or a license server.

  1. Extract the haspdinst<VerNum-Date>.zip file you downloaded from here to the root of your C:\ drive. Do not put it in a sub-folder.
  2. Exit FARO software and remove any dongles or portlocks inserted into the USB ports on your computer.

  3. Click the Windows Start menu. In the search field type cmd and press Enter. The Command Prompt window appears.
  4. If the command prompt is pointing to C:\>, skip this step. If not, at the prompt type one of these commands and press Enter.
    • If your prompt is pointing to a driver other than C, type c: and press Enter.
    • If your prompt is pointing to C but is not at the root, type cd\ and press Enter.
  5. At the C:\> prompt, type haspdinst.exe -kp -r -fr -v -purge to uninstall the current HASP driver.

    A status window appears while this operation runs. When it is done, the Operation successfully completed windows appears.

  6. Reboot your computer to complete the uninstall process and insure the Sentinel LDK License Manager service is not running.

Install the New Driver

  1. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above to get the Command Prompt window and the C:\> prompt.
  2. A t the C:\> prompt, type haspdinst.exe -i -fi -kp -fss to install the latest driver.
  3. A status window appears while this operation runs. When it is done, the Operation successfully completed windows appears.

  4. Open an Internet browser and go to http://localhost:1947 to test that you have access to the SafeNet Sentinel Admin Control Center. When you see the Control Center, click the X to close the browser tab. This confirms that the installation is successful.

Uninstall the Old RUS

To uninstall RUS, just find and delete it. Where you find it is different depending on the type of computer you are using: Stand-alone computer, client computer, or license server. The file name is FaroRUS.exe. If you prefer not to delete it, rename the file to FaroRUS-Old.exe instead.

For a stand-alone computer or client computer

The RUS file is stored in the root of the folder where the FARO Software you are running is stored. If you accepted the file storage defaults when you installed your FARO software, the RUS file is in one of these folders.

For Windows 7, 8, and 10

  • CAM2 Measure 10--C:\Program Files\FARO\CAM2 Measure <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 Q-- C:\Program Files (x86)\FARO\CAM2 Q <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 SmartInspect--C:\Program Files (x86)\FARO\SmartInspect <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 Gage--C:\Program Files (x86)\FARO\CAM2 Gage <VersionNumber>
  • SCENE--C:\Program Files\FARO\SCENE <VersionNumber>

For Windows XP

  • CAM2 Measure 10--C:\Program Files\FARO\CAM2 Measure <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 Q--C:\Program Files\FARO\CAM2 Q <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 SmartInspect--C:\Program Files (x86)\FARO\SmartInspect <VersionNumber>
  • CAM2 Gage--C:\ Program Files \FARO\CAM2 Gage <VersionNumber>
  • SCENE--C:\Program Files\FARO\SCENE <VersionNumber>

For a license server

The RUS file could be stored anywhere. If you have followed the instructions for creating a license server, the file is stored in the C:\FaroRUS folder. If not, you can search for it.

Install the New RUS

For a stand-alone computer, client computer, or server, installing the new FARO RUS is the same and very simple.

  1. Copy the new FaroRUS<VersionNumber>-<date>.zip file you downloaded from here to the folder where you found the old RUS.
  2. Extract the .zip file in this folder and make sure that the new FaroRUS.exe is in the same location as the old one.
  3. Test that you can access the RUS.
    • On a standalone computer or client computer--From the Windows Start menu click All Programs > FARO > <FAROSoftwareName> > FARO RUS or FARO Remote Update System. This makes sure that the Start menu link to the RUS works correctly.
    • On a license server--Double-click FaroRUS.exe to run it. 
  4. When you see the RUS window, click the X to close it. This confirms that the installation is successful.
