The thermal protection cover keeps the Focus from overheating in hot environments or in strong direct sunlight. It is effective for high atmospheric temperatures up to +55° C or +131° F. For operation within standard temperatures, +5° C to + 40° C, or +41° F to +104° F, you should not need to use the thermal cover. But for operation above 40° C, or 104° F, or in strong direct sunlight, we recommend using thermal protection covers to protect the Focus against the effects of excessive heat and to extend its operation time.
During continuous operation in extreme heat, the Focus gradually warms up even when you use thermal protection covers pre-cooled to 10°C or 50°F. Tests at extreme temperatures and in direct sun indicate that using a single set of pre-cooled thermal protection covers extends the operation time by at least two hours. For scanning sessions in extreme heat that extent beyond two hours, use two sets of thermal protection covers. Replace the first set after 45 minutes, and continue the scanning session with the second set.
