Information Included with the RetroProbe Calibration Certification
The Certificate of Calibration for the RetroProbe 100 or RetroProbe 400, whether created after production of a new RetroProbe or after service of an existing RetroProbe, contains the following information:
1) Serial Number of the RetroProbe
2) Calibration Date of the RetroProbe
3) Ambient Temperature and Humidity at time of Calibration
4) List of equipment used to perform calibrations
5) Transverse Accuracy: This is the error between the virtual image of the corner cube apex and geometric center of the 3 millimeter stylus tip in the plane normal to the axis of the laser beam entering the squarely entering the corner cube (not entering the corner cube on an angle). This is the final measurement after final assembly new RetroProbe or re-assembly of serviced RetroProbe after mirror replacement. For a new RetroProbe, the same 3 mm stylus tip that it shipped with is the one that was used for the Calibration. For a serviced RetroProbe, one 3 mm tip that it was received with is the one that was used for the Calibration.
6) Depth Accuracy: This is the error between the virtual image of the corner cube apex and geometric center of the 3 millimeter stylus tip along the axis of the laser beam entering the squarely entering the corner cube (not entering the corner cube on an angle).
7) Total Centering Accuracy: This is the Square Root of the square of the Transverse Accuracy plus the square of the Depth Accuracy. The equation is TCA = [(TA)^2 + (DA)^2]^(1/2)
8) Transverse Accuracy Specification
9) Depth Accuracy Specification
10) Total Centering Accuracy Specification
11) Condition Found and Condition Left
12) Intermediate Interferogram measurement data on the corner cube installed in the RetroProbe. This interferogram includes the Dihedral Angle Errors of the corner cube in the RetroProbe as well as the PV Wavefront Distortion. FARO RetroProbe assembly instructions require these to be within certain values prior to final assembly of a new RetroProbe or re-assembly of a serviced RetroProbe after mirror replacement.
Not all of the equipment used during the Calibration of the RetroProbe is performed using equipment traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Therefore, the statement of “This instrument was calibrated to NIST or other appropriate or internationally recognized standards” is not included on the Certificate.
Note: Only one 3 mm stylus tip is used for the Calibration. While FARO has tight tolerances on the individual tips, different 3 mm stylus tips or other sized tips may produce Total Centering Accuracy values that are slightly different than what is on the Calibration Certificate.
