Government and other high security facilities often inquire about the type of information that is stored inside the arms for privacy and security reasons. Both USB and Serial FaroArms have non-volatile read/write FLASH memory. The memory is used to store the embedded programming and some calibration data for the FaroArm. There are proprietary methods that are capable of erasing, writing, and reading the FLASH. These methods are used while manufacturing the FaroArms and for field updates. Security for the FLASH is limited to the anonymity of the access methods and the unavailability of documentation for the address structure of the FLASH memory. The only dynamic data stored in FaroArms are settings which relate directly to their operation. Examples include the probe XYZ, baud rate for Serial FaroArms, etc.
FaroArms do not maintain in memory (cache) measurement data of any type. Measurements taken with an arm are sent directly to the computer used to collect the data.
All FARO Edge arms by default are equipped with a Bluetooth and Wireless Network antenna for cord-free connectivity as well as an on-board software for quick measurements. However, it is possible for a FARO Edge to be purchased without these particular features. Please let your salesperson know before a purchase if this modification is desired.
