Snap-In function - Freestyle 2 to Focus Scan


Snap-in of Freestyle scans to Focus scans gives you the availability to scan with the Freestyle directly into Focus scans. You can now import your Focus scans to the Mobile PC, process them, examine them, and start the snap-in workflow. By using the snap-in functionality, you can examine multiple combined and pre-registered Freestyle-to-Focus scans and experience a new level of on-site confidence.

Note: This functionality is supported in SCENE Capture 2021.1 and later.

Connect the Freestyle 2 to the Focus

  1. From the “Settings” menu, select “FOCUS Network settings
  2. Select the desired FOCUS scanner by tapping on “Network name (SSID)”, it may be necessary to tap multiple times, based on how many Wi-Fi networks are in the area.
  3. Input the FOCUS scanner password by tapping on “Password”, the on-screen keyboard will pop-up.
  4. Once the Freestyle 2 system is connected to the Focus Scanner, the Connected state will change to “On”


Importing a Project

  1. Select “Project” from the Freestyle homepage, then tap on “+Add Project” at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. The project(s) that are stored on the SD card of the Focus are displayed. Select the project of interest by tapping the circle Snapin-SelectedIcon.png, and then tap “Import Project”.
    • In case of a single scan (within a project) to be imported, select “Import Scan”, the scans on the SD card of the Focus are displayed. Select “select”, click on the scan of interest and then on “import”.
  3. The transfer now begins.
  4. Once the transfer is complete, the project will show in the project repository of the Freestyle 2. The project that is imported from a Focus scanner can be identified by a small Laser Scanner icon at the bottom of a empty preview image.
  5. Select the project and trigger processing, within FOCUS scans, no parameters to set, processing happens with a default profile. The system learns from previously processed project/scans, the estimated time displayed becomes more accurate with use.
  6. Once the project/scan is processed, the preview shows as a Pano-Image, at this point the data is ready for "Snap-in".
  7. The Focus scan can now be navigated. Once the Snap-In location is found, tap on the snap-in button and then long tap on the area (directly in the scan). Snap-In happens only where common references are found in the Focus scan vs the real world framed by the Freestyle 2 system (Planes, targets).
  8. Locate the reference you want to start the Snap-In process from, references can be targets, as well as planes (3). Long tap on the area and the Freestyle 2 starts at this "snap-in" point, giving the user the ability to have the Focus scan in the background as a reference (in black and white) for filling voids in the scan data.



  • When using targets as a reference, a certain balance of Size of the target-Distance from the target-Resolution of the Scan has to be set while scanning with the FOCUS. Use the table below to determine the necessary marker sizes for reliable detection in Focus scans at different resolutions and distances.

  • If the application does not require colors, make sure the Focus laser scanner is set not to acquire them. The processing time is affected by color processing.
  • If you are using an Apple device, the long Tap that triggers the Snap-In should last around 3 seconds, a longer Tap repositions the 3D Data.
