CompIT Log File Location and Generation for the Laser Tracker

The CompIT log generated by the FARO Laser Tracker is used to verify accuracy issues and log what was done during a CompIT.

For the Vantage tracker:

The CompIT log file is located in the following hidden folder:

Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11 Computers: C:\ProgramData\FAROLaser\CompIT
Windows XP Computers: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FARO Laser\CompIT

The file name is CompITLog.txt

Both of these folders are hidden from normal viewing in Windows Explorer so you may need to change your settings:

  • In Windows 11: In Windows Explorer, select the View tab then select Show > Hidden items.
  • In Windows 8 and 10: In Windows Explorer, select the View tab and check the Hidden Items checkbox.
  • In Windows 7: In Windows Explorer, goto Organize -> Folder and Search Options. Select the View tab and choose "Show hidden files and folders".
  • In Windows XP: In Windows Explorer, goto Tools, select the View tab and choose "Show hidden files and folders".

For ION, V2 and V1 X, Xi, SI trackers:

Download the " FARO Tracker Log File Retrieval" file that is attached to this article to any location on the computer that was operating the tracker. Unzip the file and double click the .BAT file contained inside. This file will automatically extract the information and save it to a file named " FARO_Tracker_Log_Files.zip" that will be placed on your Windows desktop. Send this .zip file to FARO Support.

If you have problems using this tool, the information can still be obtained manually, in the following location:

C:\FARO_CompIT_Data\farocompit_log.txt
