License Activation for BuildIT Projector 2018 and Later

Overview
Different versions of FARO® BuildIT Construction, FARO® BuildIT Metrology or FARO® BuildIT Projector contain different interfaces for administering licenses. BuildIT 2018 and later versions contain a built-in License Manager. BuildIT 2019.5 and later versions contain a first-run License Wizard to help new users, as well as the License Manager for current users.
Note: If you are activating a product key for a Network License, you will need to refer to this article.
Activating a New License: Product Key
If you are running BuildIT software and need to activate a product key, you will do so through either the License Manager or License Wizard which are both described below. If your PC does not have a stable Internet connection, you will need to generate a C2V file and contact support.
These tools will not pop up automatically for a computer with an existing license (for example, an unexpired trial license). In this case, apply a new product key by opening the License Manager through the BuildIT Help menu.
License Wizard
- Click the Product Key button.
- Enter the key in the Product Key field.
License Manager
- Click the Help tab.
- Click License Status.
- Click Add license.
- Enter the Product Key in the Product Key field.
- Click Submit.
Activating a New License: Dongle
Dongle owners will receive either a V2C file to update/activate their license or update codes.
- If you receive update codes instead of a .V2C file you will need to use the Hardware License Utility.
- If you are emailed a .V2C file, you can update the license using the License Manager.
Always ensure your dongle is plugged in before opening the software.
License Manager
- Plug in you dongle.
- Start the BuildIT software.
- Click the Help tab.
- Click License Status.
- Click Update from file.
- Select the .V2C file from your PC directory and click Open.
Applying a License Update or V2C
If you are an existing customer, you will be emailed a V2C file which you will apply to update your license. Note: V2C files are unique to the computer you use with BuildIT. You cannot interchange these files with different computers.
If you received update codes instead of a .V2C file you will need to use the Hardware License Utility.
Always ensure your dongle is plugged in before opening the software.
Applying a V2C File
- Open the return email and save the V2C file to your PC. (If you have not received an email with a V2C file, contact support@builditsoftware.com.)
- Open BuildIt.
- Click the Help tab.
- Click License Status.
- Click Update from file.
- Select the .V2C file from your PC directory and click Open.
Applying a V2C to Update a Network License
- Open a web browser on the server PC with the network license.
- Type http://localhost:1947 to open the Sentinel Admin Control Center.
- Click Update/Attach.
- On the next page, click Choose File.
- Navigate to the V2C file and click Open.
- Click Apply File.
Troubleshooting
If you are having issues activating/updating a license, consider the following tips.
- Ensure you have stable internet connection.
- Ensure you have administrator privileges on your computer.
- Turn off all anti-virus/firewall software during activation. (If necessary, contact your IT department for assistance.)
- If you are using a USB Portlock/Dongle, attach it to your computer before you open the software.
If you need to create a C2V file, follow the steps below.
Create a C2V File
- Click the Help tab.
- Click License Status.
- Click Collect license information.
- Save the C2V file to your PC.
- Attach the file to an email and send it to: support@builditsoftware.com.
- You will receive an email with a matching V2C file attached. Apply the V2C file using the instructions above.
