Release Notes for Repeat Part Management (RPM)

This article lists the Release Notes for each version of CAM2® Repeat Part Management (RPM) Software to date. The current version release notes are displayed at the top of the article. Previous revisions are contained in expanding sections below.

RPM Control Station 1.7 (Ver. 1.7.10 ) Release Notes

This is the seventh maintenance release for Repeat Part Management (RPM), and includes the following:

Issues Fixed

Control Station

  • RPM-287 - Probe/adapter not found when performing Change Adapter operation

Control Server

  • RPM-1839 - Control Server log folder contains multiple buffer json files

Control Center

  • RPM-2239 - Saved Sample Size is not displayed
  • RPM-2253 - Notifications are not being displayed
  • RPM-2266 - "No Data" and "No data in selected interval" displayed at the same time
  • RPM-2267 - Previous X-Chart shown when selecting a Feature with no data
  • RPM-2269 - After clicking twice on Settings it is not possible to save or close window
  • RPM-2289 - Slider position moving out of bounds when sample size changed.
  • RPM-2305 - Error displayed when accessing the server for the first time.
  • RPM-2318 - Start of analysis is not saved on database

Experimental Features

In RPM we are currently exposing experimental features to our users, these can be accessed by selecting the relevant Experimental Features icon. These should only be used for experimentation and not relied upon for production inspection files.

Remark: While using Experimental Features, it is required that you participate in FARO Customer Experience Improvement Program.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) Support

We continue our development to add support for SPC analysis to RPM, and this version continues to provide early access to SPC analysis via Control Centre, which can be activated by clicking the icon on top bar:

SPC Improvements

Create Rules and Alerts to Warn the User When an Inspection is Out of Control

We have implemented Nelson rules, which are a method in process control of determining if some measured variable is out of control (unpredictable versus consistent). The rules are applied to the Control Charts, and are based on the mean value and the standard deviation  of the samples.

If one or more of these rules are breached, the user will be provided a notification detailing the failure.

Notifications are activated via Settings on the top bar…

Add Filter to Determine Start Date of SPC Analysis Data

It is now possible to determine a date and time as a start point, when calculating the SPC items such as CP, CPK etc. This replaces the original ‘Group size’ slider, which is now removed.

The chosen start date, will apply to all features in the inspection program.

Add Tooltips to Xbar and Range Charts

When the user hovers the curser over a chart reading, a tooltip will be shown detailing the value.

RPM Control Station 1.6 (Ver. 1.6.2 ) Release Notes

This is the sixth maintenance release for Repeat Part Management (RPM), and includes the following enhancements, improvements, and fixed issues.

Enhancements

6Probe™ support

Control Station now supports QuickTools Programs that utilise the FARO 6Probe.

Issues Fixed

Control Station

  • RPM-2199:    Measurement results not displayed, and guidance image flickers then disappears for specific feature in the QuickTool.
  • RPM-2231:    Exception occurs while executing 3D Imager QuickTool.
  • RPM-2240:    Specific adapter not shown in list, when in Change Adapter Step

SPC Improvements

Consider solved statistics for incomplete inspection sessions

We are now considering the solved statistics of incomplete inspection sessions for SPC calculations. When an unsolved statistic exists, it will not be considered on the SPC calculations.

Split charts into 25 slots to show elements evenly spaced

We are now showing only 25 items per chart by default. If there are less than 25 items, the chart will display partially populated.

Allow application wide setting for subgroup size

It is now possible to define’ in RPM Control Center’ the subgroup size to be used for SPC calculations, using the ‘settings’ icon in the main UI. This value will be inherited by each program and the corresponding calculations. You will still be able to change in a program level for analysis purposes.

In each statistic page you will be able to see the subgroup table with the corresponding item values and SPC.

Show X-Chart in Feature Details Page

The X-Chart presents the user with the average value of subgroups of production values. It shows the variation of the average value and allows for specific trend analysis to help identify situations where your process may have a consistency problem or may be diverting away from control.

Show R-Chart in Feature Details Page

The R-Chart presents the user with the range variation between subgroups of production values. It shows the variation of the range values compared to the average of the ranges and allows to identify big variations between production values.

Support Data Subgroups and Data Range

To refine analysis, it is possible to determine the subgroup sample size, and Cp / Cpk and X / R charts will be updated to show data points based on subgroups calculations.

It is also possible to enter the number of sessions that should be used for calculating SPC, that      will then be stored per document so that the same range is used for all features / properties.

To store your value simply move the sliders and click the save button next to them:RPM1.5_Fig6.jpg

It is possible to edit the sample size without it affecting the rest of the properties, if the save button is not pressed.

Quick Introduction to SPC

SPC is a quality control tool which employs statistical methods to monitor and control a process. This helps to ensure that the process operates efficiently, producing more specification-conforming products with less waste (rework or scrap).

SPC can be applied to any process where the "conforming product" (product meeting specifications) output can be measured.

Display Cp and Cpk on Each Property Being Controlled

Cp is often referred to as "Process Potential" because it describes how capable the process could be if it were centred precisely between the specifications. A process can have a Cp more than one but still fail to consistently meet customer expectations, as shown by the illustration below:

The measurement that assesses process centering in addition to spread, or variability, is Cpk. Think of Cpk as a Cp calculation that is handicapped by considering only half of the distribution that is closest to the specification.

RPM Control Station 1.4 (Ver. 1.4.24 ) Release Notes

This is the fourth maintenance release for Repeat Part Management (RPM), and includes the following enhancements, improvements, and fixed issues.

Enhancements

Feature Measurement Confirmation

When a feature is measured and is out of tolerance, Control Station will notify the user, allowing them to re-measure the feature or accept and proceed.

Log Windows Username or Name as Operator

As with CAM2 2018 Document Header, Control Station now stores the Windows Current User as the operator. This field is read only and cannot be changed by the user and provides secure traceability of operators that perform inspection.

User Selected Gallery Tile Image

When publishing a QuickTool to Control Server, it is now possible to select a custom image that will be used as the program tile in the Control Centre gallery. Using a photo of your part can make it easier for the operator to identify the inspection routine required to be executed within RPM Control Station.

Next Part Option

To improve the workflow of measuring consecutive parts using the same program, a Next Part button is now available to the user upon finishing a program.  By selecting Next Part, the user can start the next inspection session, without returning to the gallery view.

Pause Program Execution Option

It is now possible to pause the execution of a QuickTool in RPM to avoid the recording of redundant time, should the operator be interrupted during the inspection.

Improve Guidance Image Visibility

To improve the image-based guidance of an inspection routine, it is now possible to extend the Guidance Image to full screen in the 3D viewer, allowing for improved focus on the operator. Simply clicking the image toggle between full screen and tile image.
