License Update Procedure for SCENE

Quick Steps

Run the FARO® SCENE License Manager depending on which interface you use. Click one of these links for details. 


In this 12-minute video, Si Horton, FARO Application Engineer, helps you upgrade SCENE and its software development kit (SDK), check the graphics card, and set initial options. By doing this, you ensure you can quickly get started with your 3D documentation project. You can use the links in this article to step through the installation and upgrade workflow, as well as the workflow to check the graphics card. The SCENE manual can help you with setting the options Si suggests. 


When you install the latest SCENE upgrade and open SCENE, you may get a message that says you must update or activate your license before you can use the software. If you have an up-to-date warranty, you can update the license automatically within minutes. If your warranty expiration date has already elapsed, contact warranty renewal to extend your warranty.

    Firewalls get in the way of the automated license update process and cause errors

Run the License Manager for the New Interface

  1. If you use a portlock or dongle, correctly insert it into the USB port before you open SCENE. If not, skip this step.
  2. Open SCENE and click on Settings SCENESettingGearIcon.PNG > License Manager.
  3. In the License Manager window, click Update Licenses.
  4. When the update process is complete, you can use SCENE without getting a license activation message.

Run the License Manager for the Classic Interface

  1. If you use a portlock or dongle, correctly insert it into the USB port before you open SCENE. If not, skip this step.
  2. Open SCENE and on the main menu, click Help > Licensing.
  3. In the License Manager window, click Update Licenses.
  4. When the update process is complete, you can use SCENE without getting a license activation message.


  • If you encounter connection problems or error prompts while the License Manager is running, or if after you complete the update process the message that asks you to update your license continues to appear, click here and follow the directions.
