FARO Flatness Check App


FARO® Flatness Check is an iPad app that works with your FARO Focus laser scanner to quickly find and document flatness variations in concrete slabs and other floor surfaces. With FARO Flatness Check's easy workflow, a construction specialist with a Focus and an iPad can check the flatness of a slab—a reality capture expert is not needed.

FARO Flatness Check also enables you to visualize your analysis result in augmented reality. You can view the floor through FARO Flatness Check, and see a heat map of flatness variations superimposed onto it. This makes it easy to find places on the floor that need attention.

If you upload your Flatness Check project to the cloud via FARO Sphere, you can use BuildIT to validate slab quality against common standards (i.e., ASTM 1155, DIN18202, TR34) and can document that quality for your stakeholders. (Note that Sphere and BuildIT have additional licensing requirements.)

Download and Device Support

Install the FARO Flatness Check app via the App Store on your iPad. If you are a already a FARO Sphere user, you can also install the app by scanning the QR code on the installation tile.

Currently the Flatness Check app is only supported for use on the Apple iPad, iOS 14 or greater. The table below table lists recommended device/model information.

Installation and Setup

  1. Install the FARO Flatness Check app using the App Store on your iPad. If you are a FARO Sphere user, you can also install the app by scanning the QR code on the installation tile.
  2. Flatness Check also requires a FARO Sphere account, if you do not already have one you can create Sphere Base Account for free.
  3. Open the Flatness Check App on your iPad
  4. You will be prompted to sign-in to your Sphere Account (or create one).
  5. Once signed in, licensed users can begin using the app. If you are using the app for the first time, you can use the built-in 30 day trial license. To obtain a full license, contact your FARO representative.

License Management in Sphere

Owning a FARO Sphere Professional or Enterprise account, enables customers to manually share the Flatness Check license between the different users. To do so, the account admin can move the Flatness Check Permission from one user to another in the Sphere User Management.



Can I install the App on my iPhone?

As of today, no. The iPhone will be not be supported and installation is not possible as we want to provide you an excellent experience with the App.

I want to continue after the trial period. How do I do that?

We’re glad you like the App. To continue using the App you must purchase a license from FARO. We offer a 1-year subscription at a very attractive price. If you haven’t been contacted by a FARO Sales representative, please get in touch with us here.

What is needed to have the App run my laser scanner?

The Flatness Check app supports the following FARO Laser Scanner models: Focus Premium, FocusS Plus, FocusS, and FocusM with firmware 6.80 or greater. The App can’t support older FARO Laser scanners or Laser Scanning Solutions from other vendors.

I can’t upload project data from the Flatness Check App into Sphere. What do I need to do to enable this?

Most likely the issue is that a "workspace" was not created within FARO Sphere after the registration process. Such a workspace is required, so that FARO Sphere has a location for allocating your project data.

To create the workspace in Sphere, simply go to Options (click on the top right corner icon) and then Sphere Account Settings. You now should be able to create the workspace.

After completion you can identify the workspace in the App and upload your project data. Now you can invite other stakeholders to the Sphere workspace and share the results online. For more information on Sphere Workspaces, you may also want to check the Sphere User Manual.

How can I document Floor Flatness and Levelness against regional standards with the App?

At launch the App will not offer this capability. The Apps core value is in the extreme fast visualization of tolerance deviations on the floor through Augmented Reality. If its required to document slab quality against regional standards, you can transfer the captured data via FARO Sphere into FARO BuildIT Construction and perform the standard analysis there. The results from the analysis in BuildIT Construction can then be uploaded into Sphere and then via download, visualized through the Flatness Check App.
