Difference Between the FARO Insight Menu Item (Tracker>Utilities) and the FARO Utilities Software
Overview
There are two tracker-related items named utilities which have different functions and are accessed differently.
FARO Insight Utilities
FARO Insight contains the menu item Tracker > Utilities. This menu has three options, Control Pad, Operational Checks, and Compensation.
- Control Pad - Opens the Tracker Control Pad after downloading it from the tracker's Master Control Unit (MCU).
- Operational Checks - Opens Operational Checks after downloading it from the tracker's MCU.
- Compensation - Opens FARO CompIT after downloading it from the tracker's MCU.
FARO Utilities
Insight also installs a seperate program called FARO Utilities. FARO Utilities also has the ability to open up the Control Pad, the Operational Checks, and CompIT.
FARO Utilities has the additional ability to open up Diagnostic screens which may be useful if you need to contact Customer Support for troubleshooting purposes.
FARO Utilities also provides additional tools such as the ability to change the tracker's IP address from the default value of 128.128.128.100. Periodically, FARO Utilities has been updated to address minor software bugs or to be fully compatible with newer operating systems where FAROInsight has not. Therefore, it is possible to download and install a more recent version of FARO Utilities than what is included in the FAROInsight installation.
Even though the Tracker > Utilities menu item and FARO Utilities have similar names and some of the same functions, the Tracker > Utilities menu does not reference or link to the separate FARO Utilities program that is installed.
Because Insight does not reference or link to FARO Utilities, it is not possible (or required) to make any changes or Insights configuration to ensure that the Tracker > Utilities menu item works properly.
