The Laser Scanner Focus can be mounted to a mobile device to perform helical scanning of an area while the scanner is moving along a prescribed path. The mobile device could be anything, such as a car, drone, airplane, ship, train, and so on. The automation interface method of scanning, also called tunnel scanning, fixes the Z rotation of the scanner while the scanner is moving. The resulting scan is a helical shape along the traveled path.

To securely mount the Focus, you can purchase an adapter from your FARO Account Manager. The adapter restricts the scanner from rotating around the main axis while helical scanning. It includes two special scanner brackets with a stainless steel precision inlet that accepts the pins to stop the scanner rotation.


Also included is a test box to verify the proper function of the automation socket. Once you mount the Focus to the mobile device, you need a way to control the Focus.

The documents provided in the Quick Steps provide guidance for building the physical mounts for the scanner and for creating an application to perform helical scanning. If you need and Application Programmers Interface (API) to do other customization, contact FARO Support

Time to Complete Give yourself some time to accomplish this. Depending on your requirements and application, you may need to build hardware to mount the scanner to the mobile device and write custom code to accomplish your goal.
