Traceable 3D Accessories
Overview
Traceable 3D is the high accuracy scanning solution we offer to our customers that includes hardware, software, accessories, and know-how. Traceable 3D Accessories are our suite of Target accessories and tools created by ATS that are used for high accuracy registration of point cloud scans.
Highlights included a unique washer that can easily and permanently mount for projects. Once installed and surveyed, these washers act as a benchmark for repeating scans within an established coordinate system. Target accessories, like a sphere or prism, can be magnetically mounted to this washer to add flexibility to a scanning project. All Traceable 3D accessories are designed for high accuracy repeatable scanning.
Traceable 3D accessories are now FARO-made, rather than vendor-supplied. Over forty-five part numbers will now be managed in inventory at FARO for fast turnaround.

Applications
Target registration (rather than cloud to cloud registration) can be used for any application. However, they are particularly useful and sometimes mandatory for environments that include:
- Lack of a good diversity of fixed vertical and horizontal surfaces
- Critical for narrow connections and other areas with poor scan overlap
- Stairwells / Level changes
- Survey control (geo-referencing)
- Minimizes error propagation
- Aligning scans to a known coordinate system
- Industrial plants
- Difficulty getting the right overlap between scans
- A small gap due to a weak registration will make the modeling process more complex
