Recommended Survey Time With ZEB Locate With the Open Loop Method
Overview
This article informs about the recommended survey time when using an open loop method with ZEB Locate, providing as well more best practices information about using this method.
- We do not recommend to use the open loop data capture method with ZEB Locate. It is recommended for best results to close the loop. We recommend careful survey preparation before undertaking a data collection in order to plan out the best route for capture and loop closure.
- Regardless of the method (closed loop or open loop) it is recommended that each survey is a minimum of 3 minutes in a mobile mode and limited to a maximum of 20-25 minutes. This is to avoid very large file sizes as well as reduce any drift that might be created in the data.
- If you still decide to use an open loop method then we would expect the drift to be greater, with longer scans being more vulnerable to drift than shorter ones. If higher accuracies are required, performing multiple shorter (~10min) captures may provide better results.
- When capturing open loop, performing frequent 'local loops' around features such as parked cars, street lights or trees is strongly advised. The user should not travel for longer than 100m without performing a loop and should aim to perform them every 20-40m along the trajectory.
