Ethernet Configuration for Tracer Laser Projectors
Overview
In many cases, it may be impossible to connect to the Tracer Laser Projector via a wired connection due to an incorrect IP address on the host computer. This article will walk you through the configuration of the host computer for a successful connection to a Tracer Laser Projector.
Configuring Network Settings
- Right-click on the Windows Start icon and then left-click on Network Connections. Next right-click on Local Area Connection and then left-click on Properties.
- Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the Properties button.
- The default IP address of the projector is 192.168.1.XX, where XX are the last two digits of the serial number.
Note: If the Tracer has been "Reset" to its default network configuration, the IP address will be: 192.168.1.8.
The host computer must have an IP address within the same range. It should be 192.168.1.YY, where YY are any two digits other than the digits used by the projector (XX). Select the "Use the following IP address" radio button, enter the fixed IP address 192.168.1.YY, 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask, and then click OK.
Connection Verification and Troubleshooting
If you are not successfully connecting to the Tracer, it might not be a software or hardware issue but rather a network issue. It’s good to check that your computer and the Tracer can at least speak to each other. To verify a successful connection with the projector, the ping command can be sent from the command prompt.
- Click the Windows Start icon
- Type “cmd”, and then click the Command Prompt Desktop App
- At the prompt, type Ping 192.168.1.XX (where XX are the last two digits of the serial number). In this example the IP address of the projector is 192.168.1.76
- A successful ping will return a reply from the projector:
- An unsuccessful ping will return an unreachable reply or a timeout:
If your computer is connected to a VPN, try turning off the VPN and try again.
- A successful ping will return a reply from the projector:
- If you receive an unsuccessful ping, be sure that the IP address of the computer is not the same as the Tracer Laser Projector. To verify the IP address of the computer, use the ipconfig command. In this example the IP address of the computer is 192.168.1.4
