Align Scans to a BIM Model Using SCENE and Revit

Overview

This article outlines on how to align scan data to a BIM Model using SCENE and Revit but would also apply to almost any BIM platform.

  1. Within the BIM Platform, identify 3 coordinates in the BIM model. Verify the units used in both the BIM platform and SCENE.
  2. In Excel, create CSV file with coordinates (survey control file). Data format should be as shown below:

  3. In SCENE:
    • Create a new cluster called “SurveyControl”
    • Drag and drop “Scans” into “SurveyControl” (ensure scans are locked first)
    • Drag and drop CSV file into Structure tree on cluster level of “SurveyControl”
    • Start Automatic Registration (target based, automatic by name, verify targets)
      • Mark Points in Quick Views and rename to match CSV file
      • Perform Registration & accept results
    • Export the Project (Ordered Scans RCP)
  4. Return to your BIM platform and Insert the RCP (Origin to Origin).
