Measuring a cylinder requires a minimum of 6 points but we recommend taking at least 13 points. Start at one end of the cylinder and take 3 points around the cylinder (equally spaced), then move towards the other end, take another 3 points equally spaced and then take the rest of your points within the region of the first 6 points. Spread the points out in order to achieve a good best fit.
Once you are done with the measurements on the cylinder, take a compensation point in the middle area an inner diameter or away from the cylinder for an outer diameter.
1. An outline of the cylinder is displayed on the screen. This is the best fit feature that was created from all the measured points.
2. The results of the cylinder will be displayed after measuring it: Diameter, Form. If a height is wanted the 2 ends of the cylinder must be measured as planes. The points must be constructed by intersecting the cylinder with these planes. The dimension between those points will define the height of the cylinder.
Information on measuring Cylinders can also be found in the Help section for the software.
