Multiple Device Setup and Connection Using Measure 10 or Q
The ability to use multiple devices in one document makes use of multiple devices more efficient and effective when collecting data.
There are multiple ways to have 2 FARO devices communicate in the same document:
- In your file, make sure Device 1 (FARO Laser Tracker or FaroArm) is plugged in. In the Device Manager, ensure that Device 1 is the default device.
- Measure 4 or more point reducible features (Measure > Sphere or Measure > Point is recommended) with Device 1.
- Plug in Device 2 (FARO Laser Tracker or FaroArm) and go to Device Manager. Add Device 2.
- Highlight Device Position 1 listed under your second device and add each feature from step B in the pull down menus
- Click the Remeasure All button. The software will then guide you through measuring the features with Device 2 in the order in which they are listed
- Click Solve. Your alignment will solve and a deviation error will be calculated.
From here on out, you will have a new option when you right click on features, called "Add Readings from" and you can choose which device to measure a particular feature. This first method is described in more detail in the attached method sheet. This document was written with Measure Q, but the same process is used in 10.

Another way to bring in 2 devices within the same workspace, which uses nominals:
- In your file, make sure Device 1 (FARO Laser Tracker or FaroArm) is plugged in. In the Device Manager, ensure that Device 1 is the default device.
- Measure a set of 4 or more point reducible features (Measure > Sphere or Measure > Point is recommended) with Device 1.
- Highlight those features, right click them and choose "Make Nominal"
- Plug in Device 2 (FARO Laser Tracker or FaroArm) and go to Device Manager. Add Device 2.
- Measure another set of the same 4 or more point reducible features that you captured in Step B.
- Associate the the nominals and measurements by dragging the corresponding measurement from Step E to the nominal in Step B.
- Once you have associated all the nominals, go to Device Manager and highlight "Device Position 1" under your second device.
- In the dropdowns, add all your "Actual" measurements.
- For each feature, also click "Use Nominal" checkbox on each row
- Click Solve. Your alignment will solve and a deviation error will be calculated.
NOTE FOR TRACKER USERS: The hot keys G and H are strictly for the default device. Typically the hot keys are for Tracker use so ensure the default device is the FARO Laser Tracker (if applicable). To ensure your Tracker is the default device,
- Go to the Device Manager
- On the left hand side, highlight the Tracker in the device list.
- Push the "Make Default" button. If the button is not highlighted, it means the Tracker is already the default device.
