Inverted (Upside-Down) Mounting Guidelines for the Focus Laser Scanner
Overview
The Focus Laser Scanners can be mounted inverted (i.e., upside down), using these guidelines:
- You must create/fabricate a custom mounting plate. There are threaded holes located in the bottom of the scanner base for (1) 3/8-16 and (4) M5 fasteners. See the User Manual (for your model) for additional information and mounting dimensions.
- Ensure that all mounting screws are equipped with a locking mechanism to prevent unintentional loosening.
- Do not use the FARO Quick Release when mounting the scanner in an inverted position. The scanner could fall and be damaged or cause injury to bystanders.
- Ensure that no person is underneath the scanner during setup and operation.
- The setup you create to hold the scanner should be able to support at least 5 kg (11 lbs.).
- Use a tripod only if it is suitable for inverted installations (the ACCSS8032 tripod is not suitable).
- The setup must be as rigid as possible and must prevent vibrations and oscillations.
- Ensure that the scanner cannot loosen or fall from your setup. Make sure your mounting is locked safely and cannot open underweight.
- Ensure that the scanner can rotate without touching anything.
- Keep the cooling fan openings uncovered and at least 18 cm (7 in) from any surface.
Calibration/Compensation
Focus3D Models
Focus3D models require a special factory calibration/compensation in order to be used in an inverted application. Contact FARO Support and request a service to compensate your scanner for inverted operation. This service is not covered by your warranty.
Focus Premium, Core, FocusM and FocusS Models
Focus Premium, Core, FocusM and FocusS models support inverted mounting by default, special factory compensation/calibration is not required.
