Accuracy Changes From the Use of Extensions, Point Probes or Custom Probes on a FaroArm
Specified arm accuracy is guaranteed when used with the standard ball probes only.
Accuracy degradation when using extensions, point or custom probes is difficult to quantify due to numerous external factors that can influence the measurement; probe deflection being the most common as it is difficult for an operator to control how much pressure he/she applies when hard probing a part.
Experience dictates that in some cases you can expect accuracy degradation of 2 and up to 4 times that of the device being used. The Probe Calibration procedure, when using extended or custom probes, will likely result in a "Fail" condition. It is recommended that you calibrate the probe at least 3 times and check the calibration log for consistency in the results (under the 2 Sigma column). The user can then determine if the induced error is acceptable for the application.
