Accuracy Specifications for the Legacy Gage FaroArm
Different Gage models have different accuracy specifications and a different method of stating these specifications. Older Gage models such as Gage, Gage Plus and Power Gages have accuracy specified as 5 microns + L 8 microns / meter where L is the working distance in meters. 1 micron is 0.001 mm
Newer Gage models with Bluetooth specify a Single Point Articulation Test (SPAT) of 18 microns (0.0007 in) and Volumetric Maximum Deviation of +/- 25 microns (+/- 0.001”). This is the same method that accuracy is specified for all other arms FARO manufactures. This is the maximum error that can occur anywhere in the Gage arms measurement volume.
A chart presenting accuracy of the older style Gage arms at different working distance is below:
Working Distance | Accuracy | ||
Inches | mm | Inches | microns |
3.94 | 100 | 0.00023 | 5.8 |
16.69 | 500 | 0.00035 | 9.0 |
47.24 | 1200 | 0.00057 | 14.6 |
For checking the accuracy of the Faro Gage we recommend performing a GAGE block or ring GAGE test in a temperature controlled environment. If the block or ring are not available, measure a known distance several times.
