Performance Problems due to Security and Anti-Malware Software for As-Built Modeler

During testing and product demonstrations, it has been found that endpoint security software can have a noticeable negative impact on the performance of
- FARO stand alone apps (e.g. Scene, As-Built Modeler)
- Autodesk software hosting As-Built add-ins (i.e., As-Built for AutoCAD and As-Built for Revit).
Adverse effects can be caused by security software of multiple vendors. FARO cannot guarantee and/or test compatibility with endpoint security software solutions (anti-malware) on customer machines.
Problem: Performance problems with FARO SCENE and/or As-Built software after introduction or changes to endpoint security software running on the machine.
Solution: Depending on the security policies in place, the reported problems can in many cases be resolved by whitelisting the appropriate installation and data folders in the endpoint security software. Please contact your IT department for support and to ensure that the security software on the machine is always up-to-date.
Please find below a list of the default installation and data folders relevant for whitelisting. These instructions need to be adapted for customized product installation folders.
Candidate folders for security whitelist
The most convenient solution to whitelist FARO products is to add an exclusion rule for
-
%PROGRAMFILES%\FARO
and
-
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\FARO
-
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\FARO
Please note that product-specific exclusions are possible
FARO SCENE & As-Built products default installation folder
-
%PROGRAMFILES%\FARO\FARO_PRODUCT_NAME
The As-Built for AutoCAD and As-Built for Revit add-ins may require an exclusion for
Autodesk host products
-
%PROGRAMFILES%\Autodesk\AUTODESK_PRODUCT_NAME
-
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
-
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk
Note: FARO_PRODUCT_NAME
and AUTODESK_PRODUCT_NAME
are placeholders, typically including specific version and language information.
