Overview
The FARO® Stream App can be downloaded directly from: Stream - Apple App Store | Stream - Google Play. You will also find QR codes on the Focus Premium and Orbis Quick Start Guide that will take you to FARO Sphere and the download for the FARO Stream app. If you are using an Android device and do not have access to the Google Play, a direct download and installation instructions are provided below.
Direct Download and Install (Android APK)
The FARO Stream App can be installed on your Android smartphone/tablet without Google Play using the FARO Stream App APK file.
Adjust Device Security Settings
By default, most Android devices restrict installation of apps that do not come from Google Play. Before you can download and install the FARO APK file/app on your Android device you will need to adjust some settings:
Note: The procedure and menus can differ between devices and Android versions.
- Open the Settings page on your device.
- Search for “unknown”. In the results, select "Install unknown apps" or "Unknown sources".
- Scroll down to the "My Files" app and enable it.
Your device can now install apps (.apk files) that do not come from Google Play. After installation, you can deactivate these permissions.
Installation of the Stream APK
Once you have enabled your device to allow APK installation:
- Download the FARO Stream APK to your device.
- Open the My Files app on your device, under "Downloads" locate and tap on the Stream APK file.
- When prompted, confirm the installation and the app will be installed.
Note: Automatic updates for the manually installed APK file will not occur. You must download and install the update manually using the procedure outlined above.
FARO Stream is a mobile App allows you to:
- Control your Orbis and Focus Premium scanner
- Pre-register captured scans directly in the field to get confidence on data completeness and reduce off-site registration failures
- Collect complementary data as annotations marked in the scan with image or file attachments
- Upload captures data directly into Sphere for immediate project sharing with stakeholders.
Recommended Mobile Devices:
- iPhone 11 (iOS 15.4) with minimum 64GB Capacity for small to medium projects (> 50 scans per project)
- iPad Pro (12.9 Inch, 5. Gen., iOS 15.4) with minimum of 128GB Capacity
- Android 12, minimum 128 GB (e.g. Google Pixel 5 for small and medium projects)

FARO Stream 3.2.3 Release Notes - November 2024
FARO is pleased to announce the release of Stream version 3.2.3. We would like to thank customers who provided valuable product input.
This release of Stream requires Orbis firmware 4.0.2 (or highter) to work with an Orbis mobile scanner. The firmware of Orbis scanners with an older firmware version can still be updated via Stream. Important: Stream does not support downgrading to previous firmware versions.
Improvements
- Stream now supports uploading to Sphere XG while running in the background.
- Improved ordering of registration for last scans.
- Newly created projects now open automatically in the DataView.
Bug fixes
- Resolved an issue that prevented the Focus Core (70m) from being used.
- Fixed synchronization errors that caused inconsistent project structures.
- Addressed a problem where the Orbis trajectory was occasionally hidden in DataView.
- Corrected an issue on the device settings page that occurred when a device was disconnected.
Limitations
- Point cloud data is not synchronized from Sphere XG to Stream.
- Deleting a project, cluster, or scan in Stream and syncing will delete the scan from Sphere XG and SCENE.
- Focus scans are not yet processed in Sphere XG.
- Syncing from Sphere XG to Stream may remove the Stream registration connections.
- It's not yet possible to visualize and register scans from Focus and Orbis in one project.

Improvements
- Start by using the "+" button at the top left to create a project. The system no longer creates an empty project automatically.
- The option to switch between the Orbis and Focus workflows has been removed.
- In the Structure View, you can now create clusters (for Focus) and sheets (for Orbis) by swiping left at the home level (or at the cluster levels for Focus).
- Note that clusters are relevant only for Focus, while sheets are specific to Orbis.
- At this time, Focus and Orbis scan data are not displayed together in the DataView, and they cannot be registered with each other.
- After migrating from Sphere Legacy to Sphere XG, uploads are now supported for Focus.
Limitations
- Point cloud data is not synchronized from Sphere XG to Stream
- Deleting a project, cluster, or scan in Stream and syncing will delete the scan from Sphere XG and SCENE
- Focus scans are not yet processed in Sphere XG.
- Syncing from Sphere XG to Stream may remove the Stream registration connections.

Bug Fixes
General:
- Fixed an intermittent crash issue during network property checks.
- Fixed an issue where Stream sometimes failed to reconnect when the device erroneously detected use by another Stream instance.
Focus:
- When relocating a scan from a cluster to the project root, the notification text no longer displays an empty cluster name. Instead, it says "...moved to the top level."
- Fixed the problem where getting scan profiles from the scanner sometimes failed.
Orbis:
- The project name no longer gets lost sporadically when changing the project image.
- Stream no longer hangs indefinitely when trying to synchronize an invalid dataset (e.g., due to scanner shutoff during scanning).
- Scan label settings, which had no effect in Orbis mode, have been removed to streamline functionality.

The HDR (High Dynamic Range) setting makes it possible to see details in areas that would be overexposed or underexposed in scans with high-speed or low-noise settings. Stream 2.0.2 with Focus firmware 7.2.2, together with the Ricoh Theta panoramic camera, make it possible to use HDR when capturing FARO Flash scans, giving you the detail of HDR together with the speed of FARO Flash.

- Placing the registration hint marker precisely was impossible because the view jumped when the user applied a long press
- Streaming panorama camera calibration scans sometimes failed

- When connecting to a FARO Core scanner for the first time, no scan profiles were available
- Live streaming of the first scan after scanner bootup sometimes failed

Known Issues
- Projects with PanoCam scans cannot be uploaded to Sphere if the active cluster is selected. Workaround: Deselect the cluster before uploading.

Known Issues
- If a scan is assigned to another cluster before the scan is finished, the project synchronization mechanism will fail, so that on the scanner the scan will still be in the original cluster.
- Workaround: Wait to shift scans to other clusters until the scan is complete.
- In rare case the streaming of a scan can be interrupted.
- Workaround: Wait until the scan is finished and it will automatically reload after the scan is complete.
