Creating a VR Project with the VR Generator App

Quick Steps

  1. Open VR Generator and check project/scans to be exported.
  2. Click Export tab and adjust export settings.
  3. Click export icon and select destination directory.

Overview

FARO® VR Generator is a stand-alone software tool used to create a FARO VR PointCloud from SCENE projects. FARO VR Generator creates an installer package that is freely distributable. It allows users to watch and experience the exported SCENE project in VR without a separate SCENE or FARO VR Generator license.

  • SCENE 6.2 or later scan project

Creating a VR PointCloud

  1. When launched, the VR Generator will populate a list of SCENE projects from the default SCENE folder.

    Note: To run a project from a different location, click the  icon.
  2. Check the project or individual scans to be exported to a VR project.
    Note: For best results, the SCENE project should be completely registered, and the scans should be colorized for optimal VR experience.
  3. Click the Export tab.
  4. Adjust the project settings as needed.
    • Project Name - Use this field to rename the project if necessary.
    • - Click the Calculate estimated project size icon to generate disk space information.
    • Company Logo - Click this box to add a custom image to the project.
  5. Click the export and generate icon  to create an installation file.
  6. Select a destination directory to contain the EXE file.
  7. Click Save.

Viewing a VR Pointcloud

To view a VR PointCloud follow theses steps:

  1. Download or save the EXE file to a directory on the PC.
  2. Make sure an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset is connected and functioning.
  3. Double-click the EXE file.
  4. Install VR Viewer if prompted.
