Download a Project from Sphere XG
Overview
This article will step you through downloading a Sphere XG project to SCENE.
Before you download a project:
-
Only Sphere XG projects containing data uploaded from SCENE 2024 or later will show content once they are downloaded.
-
WebShare Cloud Migrated projects do not contain any data that SCENE can read and they will also be empty once you download into SCENE. This is explained in detail in this article: SCENE to Sphere XG Connection.
Download a Project
Open SCENE, log in to Sphere XG, select the desired workspace, and follow the steps below.
- From the project selector click on Show Cloud.
- Click on the 3 dots button over the project tile that you want to download.
- Select Light Download or Full Download. Download differences are explained below.
- If you click the project tile when Show Cloud is selected SCENE will automatically start a "Light Download" of the project.
When a project is downloaded you will notice that the Scan Point Clouds and the Project Point Cloud are not present in the project. They are not uploaded to minimize the amount of data that is uploaded/downloaded. You can recreate them if they are needed.
- Full Download: Downloads the entire SCENE project as described above.
- Light Download: Only the project structure and metadata are downloaded. The scans are only downloaded when they are loaded in SCENE. The Light Download allows you to easily and efficiently add or remove scans in existing large projects without the need to download the entire SCENE project.
Using the Light Download
When working with light projects, the scans are only downloaded from Sphere XG when the scan is loaded by SCENE. This means that if you want to run a process that will load all the scans in the project, (like creating project point cloud creation) it’s better to use fully downloaded projects.
A light download of a 1200 scans project will take around 10-15 minutes and the needed space in your hard disk will be minimal. Compared with a few hundreds of gigabytes that you would need with a Full Download.
- Run a light download from SCENE of a large project where you want to add or remove scans
- In the light project you can import new scans in a new cluster and then register them against the existing scans
- During the registration process only the required existing scans that are needed to register the new ones will be downloaded
- It is recommended to register using the interactive registration and to fix existing scan positions before registering new ones
- Once the registration is complete you can save your project and sync your changes with Sphere XG
To delete a light projects from your hard disk, press Shift + Delete in Windows Explorer.
Tip: If data is being downloaded from Sphere XG the spinning wheel (shown in the image below) will be visible next to the Apps icon in the top ribbon bar:
