Product Training Offerings for FARO Zone

In order to give you freedom in selecting training that most suits the way you use the software, we have divided specialized instruction into four-hour sessions of instructor led training. You can purchase these training courses individually to build your own customized training package. Courses will additionally be offered at multiple times to best fit your schedule.

In addition to our Virtual Classroom options, we also offer the option to train at your location for an additional cost. This in-person training will allow you to customize the curriculum, within the available time frame, to fit your needs. ACTAR or IAI CEU Credits available for in-person training but varies on your customized training. Request more details for In-Person Training.

FARO Zone 3D: Core Training

Course Description

Duration of Training: Two consecutive days, consisting of 4 hours of exclusively online training each day. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to the start of class.

Objective: The FARO Zone 3D Core training is specifically designed to assist new users. The course content is focused on providing a practical introduction to the many functions available in FARO Zone 3D. Beginning with an overview introduction of the interface to creating scaled diagrams and basic animations, the FARO Zone 3D Core class will give even novices the instruction they need to begin using FARO Zone 3D to complete a wide array of tasks. The basic class should be taken by all who are considering participating in any advanced training options. Topics may include, but not limited to, skills such as:

Course Content

Day 1:

  • Interface introduction-description
  • Effectively working with layers
  • 2D navigation
  • Creating to scale diagram(s) via satellite images
  • Get familiar with the robust symbols library

Day 2:

  • Using new tools to uncover multiple diagramming techniques
    • Direct distance entry
    • Place distance markers
    • Cursor align tool
  • Using coordinate data (Total Station data handling)
    • Manual measurements using baseline/coordinate
    • Manual measurements using triangulation
  • Basics of animation
    • Get an understanding of how to apply and manipulate animation paths
    • Create basic animations that will be a foundation to allow far more complex animations as required

FARO Zone 3D: Power Tools for Crash

Course Description

Duration of Training: Four hours of online training in our Virtual Classroom. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to class.

Pre-Requisite: Students should have previously attended both days of FARO Zone 3D Core Training.

Objective: This course is designed for Investigators who will be using primarily hand measurements (non-laser scanner data) to complete crash investigations. Topics may include, but not limited to, skills such as:

Course Content

  • Use of the Slope Calculation Tool
  • Use of the Critical Speed Tool
  • Use of the Crush Calculation Tool
  • Use of the Skid Analysis Tool
  • Use of the Profile Tool
  • Use of the Momentum Tool for linear and angular calculations
  • Vehicle Spec Database
  • Basic Crash Animation
  • Use of the time/distance Tool
  • Use and customization of forms
  • Use of the Draw Road Tool
    • Adding symbols
    • Adding signs/creating custom signs

FARO Zone 3D: Power Tools for Crash - Point Cloud

Course Description

Duration of Training: Four hours of online training in our Virtual Classroom. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to class.

Pre-Requisite: Students should have previously attended both days of FARO Zone 3D Core Training.

Objective: This course is designed for Investigators who will be using primarily laser scanner data to complete crash investigations. Topics may include, but not limited to, skills such as: 

Course Content

  • Use of Point Cloud Data (when applicable) with crash analysis tools such as:
    • Crush Calculation Tool
    • Critical Speed Tool
    • Skid Analysis Tool
    • Profile Tool
    • Momentum Tool for linear and angular calculations
  • Basic Crash diagramming:  create 2D/3D simultaneously with Point Cloud data
  • Basic crash animation in the Point Cloud
    • Creating “undamaged to damaged” views that show damage imparted after crash
  • Use of SCENE2Go
  • Import of .lsproj (SCENE) files and legacy files
  • Model use as exported from SCENE

Course Description

Duration of Training: Four hours of online training in our Virtual Classroom. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to class.

Pre-Requisite: Students should have previously attended both days of FARO Zone 3D Core Training.

Objective: This course builds upon the basics of animation covered in the FARO Zone 3D Core Training course. In this course students will continue animation practice with the inclusion of the following skills which may include, but not limited to:

    • Multiple synchronizations

FARO Zone 3D: Advanced Diagramming

Course Description

Duration of Training: Four hours of online training in our Virtual Classroom. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to class.

Pre-Requisite: Students should have previously attended both days of FARO Zone 3D Core Training.

Objective: This course builds upon the basics of diagramming covered in the FARO Zone 3D Core Training course. In this course students will continue diagramming practice with the inclusion of the following skills which may include, but not limited to:

  • Importing orthophotos from SCENE
  • Importing overview maps from SCENE
  • Importing of. tiffs and other image files
  • Importing of .obj files from SCENE

FARO Zone for Pre-Planning

Course Description

Duration of Training: Four hours of online training in our Virtual Classroom. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to class.

Pre-Requisite: Students should have previously attended either the FARO Zone 2D On-Demand course, or both days of FARO Zone 3D Core Training.

Objective: This course is designed for students who will be using the ScanPlan for pre-incident planning and diagramming. Topics may include, but not limited to, skills such as:

Course Content

  • Importing data from the ScanPlan
  • Creating basic diagrams
  • Importing and use of Google/Bing maps
  • Use and customization of forms
  • Creating Pre-Incident Plans
  • Fire and Security Symbols
  • Security Tools (Security Camera, Security Ring, Security Halo if using FARO Zone 3D)
  • Use of a scalebar

FARO Zone 3D: Onsite

Course Description

Duration of Training: Three days of onsite training at the customer’s facility/agency. Course consists of instructor led training through demonstration and practice exercises, using files provided to the student prior to the start of class. Day Three content will be determined by customer need. 

Objective: This course is designed for students who prefer an in-person training and will be using FARO Zone 3D software for diagrams, animations, crash or crime analysis.  Topics may include, but not limited to, skills such as:
