Fix Export Pointcloud Fail in Geoslam Hub
Overview
This article explains how to avoid failed pointcloud export errors.
Procedure
If your dataset is failing to export from GeoSLAM Hub, it is normally because your machine is running out of memory and is unable to complete the export operation.
The common reasons for this are:
- The computer is not powerful enough to apply the computation and export the output results
- The data is large, and the spatial decimation option that has been selected generates significant metadata information
- Check if your export location folder is named in a different language containing symbols. If so you will need to re-name this folder.
- Check if the scan has processed correctly. You can do this by click the 'View' button to open the scan in GeoSLAM Viewer. Datasets cannot be exported if they have not been processed successfully.
- Review the options you are entering into the export window. If you are using no spatial decimation, or very low spatial decimation i.e. 1mm-10mm, the export may fail due to the machine running out of memory. Please see Software Download and Release Notes for GeoSLAM Hub for recommended machine specifications.
- We also recommend using the "LAZ" format, as it is compressed and therefore very efficient.
- Finally, ensure you are exporting to a local disk in your machine - preferably an SSD - rather than a USB or networked drive.
We recommend the following settings:
You may reduce the spatial decimation but if you are running into export errors once more, we recommend increasing this value.
