1.5 Inch Windowed SMR Use in CompIT and Startup Checks
Overview
Startup Checks and CompIT assume that the regular 1.5” Spherically Mounted Retroreflector (SMR) is used at all times, so special precautions are needed if using the Windowed SMR with CompIT.
Details
The 1.5” Windowed SMR can be used to perform Angular Accuracy Checks, Pointing Interim Test, or a Pointing Compensation, however when CompIT sends the Tracker to the home position upon completion of these routines, the current target setting of the Tracker will be "1.5” SMR". This will result in an error of any measurements completed until the Tracker is reset to the home position with the target type set to "1.5” Windowed SMR". This will occur even if the target type is set to 1.5” Windowed SMR in the measurement software being used, such as CAM2®, Measure, or other measurement software before opening CompIT. The error will be in the tracker's radial distance measurement and will be approximately 0.035” or 0.89 mm.
To eliminate this error, when using the 1.5” Windowed SMR to perform Angular Accuracy Checks, Pointing IT or Pointing Compensation, you should reset the Tracker to the home position in the measurement software. This should be done IMMEDIATELY after CompIT closes and before any measurements are performed.
On an Absolute Distance Meter (ADM) only tracker, the ADM Checks on CompIT’s Advanced tab cannot be performed with the 1.5” Window. Using the 1.5” Windowed SMR for this check will produce invalid results.
While it is recommended to check Angular Accuracy after completing the Startup Checks, if measurements are performed immediately after the Startup Checks sent the Tracker home to a 1.5” Windowed SMR without checking the Angular Accuracy using CompIT, you should reset the Tracker to the home position in the measurement software after the changing the target type to "1.5” Windowed SMR". This should be done IMMEDIATELY after CompIT closes and before any measurements are performed.
