Upload a SCENE Project to Sphere XG
Overview
This article will step you through uploading a SCENE project to Sphere XG.
Before you upload a project:
- Verify have sufficient rights in Sphere XG to upload. You must be a Workspace Admin or a Workspace Project Manager.
- Only FARO Focus scans can be uploaded to Sphere XG. If you have any other kind of scan (Freestyle, Orbis, imported e57 files, etc.) in your project, the project will fail to be uploaded.
Log In to Sphere XG
- Open SCENE and click on the Sphere XG avatar .
- You will be redirected to the Sphere XG log in page. Follow the log in instructions on the screen.
- Once the log in is complete you need to switch back to SCENE.
- In SCENE, choose the workspace to where you want to upload your projects. The menu below will pop up in a few seconds.
Upload a Project
The project point cloud is always uploaded to Sphere XG if it exists in the SCENE project. If there is not a project point in the SCENE project, the Sphere XG project will not have a 3D point cloud.
- Open the SCENE project you want to upload.
- In the project tab, click on the Upload button in the Sphere XG tile.
- Enter the Project Name (name of the project in Sphere XG), choose the Group and click OK.
- In a few seconds the upload progress bar will appear and the upload process will begin.
- Once the project is uploaded, the Sphere XG tile will become green as shown in the image below.
- If you want to open your project in Sphere XG:
- From the SCENE project tab click on the Sphere XG link displayed below the project path.
- Within the activity tab, you can check the progress of the SCENE Project conversion for availability in the Sphere Viewer.
- Once the conversion is completed you will be able to open it in the Sphere Viewer.
- From the SCENE project tab click on the Sphere XG link displayed below the project path.
Upload Information
- The upload speed will be limited by your bandwidth connection, making it possible to upload projects with 1000 scans in less than 3 hours
- Scan point clouds are not uploaded to Sphere XG and the project point cloud is exported and uploaded as a CPE. The reason for this is to reduce the amount of data that is uploaded. If you download the project, if needed, you will need to recreate them in SCENE.
- To upload multiple SCENE projects at the same time you can open multiple SCENE instances
- Once the upload of the project is complete and the project is in Sphere XG, a connection is established that will allow changes in the project to be synced between Sphere XG (cloud) and SCENE (Local)
- The connection between the project in SCENE and the Project in XG can be removed by clicking on the trash Icon next to the Sphere XG project link. This connection cannot be re-stablished.
- You must have sufficient permissions to upload a SCENE project, i.e. the permission to create a project. You can find an overview of roles and permissions in “Overview of Roles and Permissions on the Workspace and Project Level” in the Sphere XG user manual.
