Network License Server and Client Configuration
Overview
Most FARO® software requires a valid license to open and use it. System administrators can create a network license server to make a pool of licenses available to client computers running FARO software. Licenses are hosted on the server computer and are shared with client computers over a network. When FARO software runs on a client computer it searches the network for an available license. Click here for more information about FARO software licensing.
Procedure
First, it’s mandatory to ensure that the Server and the Client computer(s) can communicate through the network. Once this is verified, the steps below detail how to share network licenses using the FARO Licensing Manager.
Configuration of the Host (or Server)
- Install the Licensing Manager on the Host computer. Instructions can be found here.
- Open the Licensing Manager and click on Configure.
- Click on As Host.
- Ensure the "Allow access from remote clients" slider is On.
- In the Client name/IP address field you may allow or deny specific clients. By default, all licenses are accessible without need of identity.
The host configuration is now complete. For advanced configuration options (not needed by default), click on the Admin Control Center link (red arrow).
Activating/Updating Licenses
Activating or updating network-type licenses is always done on the Host machine, in the same manner as local licenses. See the following sections for more information:
Configuration of the Client

- In the Host Name/IP address field, you may enter the name or IP address of the server. By default, all licenses are accessible without the need of identity.
d. The Client configuration is now complete. If you return to the "Licenses" screen of the Licensing Manager, the available network licenses will be displayed.
For advanced configuration options (not needed by default) click on the Admin Control Center link (red arrow).
Be sure to open the FARO software on the client computer(s) to confirm that it can automatically find a network key.
